Reflect on your experiences in Heywood Community School during the years of the Junior Cycle.

  • Are there any activities you engaged in you are particularly proud of?
  • Did you get involved in any extra-curricular activities such as Young Scientist, Debating, Subject competitions etc.?
  • Were you a member/captain of a sports team in the school?
  • Were you a member of a committee of any sort e.g. Student Council? Were you a class prefect?
  • Were you involved in any activities involving the organisation of events for the school e.g. Open night, Parent Teacher meetings?
  • Did you actively participate in non-examination subjects such as PE, Religion and SHPE?
  • Did any of these experiences develop your skills e.g. Leadership and knowledge in a particular area.

Write down notes on the activities you were involved in in this manner.

Now compile a list of “Other Areas of Learning” you would like to include in your JCPA. When compiling this list remember:

  • This will appear on your JCPA form
  • Refer to yourself in the third person e.g. Jack was a member of the school football team.
  • Emphasise the skills and knowledge gained through the experience e.g. “Jack was a member of the school football team” could be improved upon by rephrasing as “Jack represented the school on the Junior football team where he developed leadership and collaboration skills with his peers”. A sample of skills which may be considered include the development of your ability to:
