Location of School

Heywood Community School is 20 km from Portlaoise southbound along the N77 (exit M7 at Junction 17). In Abbeyleix you turn left, you then veer right at the junction of the R430 and R432 towards the town of Ballinakill and it is sign posted from there on.

When you get to “The Old School Entrance” (Castle Gates)  turn left and take the next right. Continue up the driveway for 800m until you get to the roundabout. The Gym is to the left and the school is right in front of you.

The school is situated 1.2 Km from Ballinakill, 5km from Abbeyleix on the South Laois/Kilkenny border. The Owenbeg river flows along the south east boundaries of Ballinakill and the town itself is situated Northwest of the Castlecomer Plateau.
The School enjoys a superb location and setting, on a 20 acre site adjacent to the beautiful kept, Lutyens designed Italian Gardens.
